Side-Mounted Number Plate Holder for the Triumph Rocket 3: Development with Part Type Approval
The Triumph Rocket 3 is a motorcycle that knows no compromises. Enormous torque, striking proportions and a confident design make it a fixture in the power cruiser segment. This very design language poses particular challenges for accessory manufacturers – especially when technology, aesthetics and legal requirements must all be met equally.
For the Rocket 3 without ABS (type C23XB), we are currently developing a side-mounted number plate holder with Part Type Approval (TTG) that harmoniously integrates into the vehicle design while meeting the highest technical standards.
Why a Side-Mounted Number Plate Holder on the Rocket 3 is Particularly Demanding
The Rocket 3 is not a classic cruiser. The massive rear tyre, the striking swingarm and the very prominent rear section leave little room for solutions that are not precisely thought through. A side-mounted number plate holder must meet several requirements simultaneously here.
- Supporting the dominant look of the rear wheel
- Clean integration into swingarm and rear line
- Compliance with all legal requirements
- High stability even under strong vibrations
Especially with a motorcycle of this performance class, precision fit, material strength and craftsmanship are crucial – not only visually, but also in daily riding.
Digital Development Directly on the Motorcycle via 3D Scan
The foundation of our development is a 3D scan directly on the vehicle. Instead of working with abstracted CAD data or measurement tables, we capture the real geometries of the Triumph Rocket 3 directly on the motorcycle.
In the image shown, this development phase is clearly visible: The digital scan of swingarm, wheel and rear forms the basis for the construction of the number plate holder. This allows us to place components exactly where they will sit in actual riding conditions.
Advantages of Digital Construction
- Exact adaptation to the real vehicle geometry
- Early visualisation of design and proportions
- Fewer correction loops in prototype construction
- High precision for subsequent series production
Part Type Approval (TTG) Considered from the Start
Beyond aesthetics, legal protection plays a central role. The side-mounted number plate holder is specifically developed for the Part Type Approval (TTG). Already during construction, we take all relevant requirements into account.
- Prescribed number plate position and inclination angle
- Correct visibility and radiation angles
- Integration of suitable number plate illumination
- Stable mounting without modification of safety-relevant components
The goal is a solution that is permanently legal, functional and visually convincing.
Development, Prototype Construction and Distribution from Lemgo
The complete development – from the first design through prototype construction to subsequent distribution – takes place at our facility in Lemgo, Germany. Short distances and direct coordination between design and manufacturing are a decisive advantage.
Burchard Excellence stands for precise manufacturing, high-quality materials and accessory solutions that are specifically developed for demanding motorcycles – functional, durable and design-oriented.
Outlook
The side-mounted number plate holder for the Triumph Rocket 3 exemplifies how digital development and traditional craftsmanship can work together meaningfully. The result is a component that integrates seamlessly into the motorcycle both technically and visually.
After completion of development and successful Part Type Approval, the number plate holder will specifically expand the Burchard Excellence range.
